hile this image does look underexposed, all of
the information is clearly there in the histogram.
Nothing is clipping, and we’ve a full range of tones
to work with. Excellent! Compositionally the photo
is split in two: the sky and the pier. While the
sunny part of the sky is interesting, the rest is lacking in interest.
My solution to this is to crop the photo. With long verticals,
I often default to the 4x5 crop. It tightens the look and stops
it feeling so long. A quick check reveals that I think I need
a landscape version, highlighting the pier.
This means the tower and the fishermen are now my focal point.
The structure of the pier lends itself to a gritty mono treatment.

Crop the image
I pressed R to open the Crop Tool. To change the Aspect Ratio,
I went to the Aspect menu. 4x5 is the optimum ratio for social
media: long images tighten up, and wide images aren’t too wide. A square
format can work too, but I want the leading line of the pier.
To swap the orientation, I pressed X then dragged the image to place
the crop. I was trying to include the pier in the bottom-left corner. To
check composition, I pressed O until I saw the Golden Spiral option
and then Shift + O until I saw the centre of the spiral on my fishermen.
