The new Reminders app in

iPadOS mirrors those in iOS 13

and macOS Catalina. It has been

redesigned from the ground up

and, for that reason, you’ll need to upgrade

all your devices to the latest version of their

respective operating systems in order to use

it with iCloud on those devices. If you share

lists with other users, they will also need to

upgrade in order to share lists created or

edited with the new Reminders app.

The differences between old and new are

obvious the moment you launch Reminders.

The opening screen displays one of its

headline additions: Smart Lists. You’ll see list

headers for Today, Scheduled (for sometime in

the future), or Flagged. The fourth section

houses all reminders that haven’t been

completed. Beneath that are the default

regular lists along with any you’ve created.

Other new features include tighter

integration with Siri, which now suggests

reminders you might want to add when,

for example, you’re using Messages to

make plans with friends.

The Quick Toolbar enables you to quickly add

times, dates, locations, flags, photos and

scanned documents to reminders. And you

can add subtasks, which can be viewed or

hidden using a drop-down arrow next to the

reminder heading. There’s also a separate

field for adding a URL to a reminder.

You can groups lists, too. So, for example

you could create one group for all your

personal lists and one for work lists. And each

list can be assigned a colour and an icon.
