HOW TO Customise the Home Screen

1

Set the size
iPadOS gives you a choice of two icon sizes.
Go to Settings, then scroll down and choose
Display & Brightness. More makes the icons
smaller so you can get more on the screen,
including your Today View.

2

Swipe right for dates
If you swipe right on the Home screen,
the Today View will appear alongside the icons
or above them if you selected the Bigger view
option. It’s handy, isn’t it? Let’s make it stay
there permanently.

3

Make it fixed
If you haven’t set the layout to Bigger,
the first time you swipe to get the Today View
you’ll see a message asking if you want to add
it to your Home Screen. We do, so let’s select
Add To Home Screen.

4

Edit your widgets
Just like you could do on iOS before
it became iPadOS, you can edit which app
widgets will appear and what order they
appear in by scrolling down to the very
bottom and tapping on the Edit button.

5

Reorder your widgets
To reorder the widgets that appear, just
grab the handle at the right of the one you
want to move and drag it. To delete, just tap
the red circle icon next to the widget and then
click Remove. Tap Done to exit.

6

Enjoy your new Home
You should now see your customised
Home screen in all its glory, with your choice
of widgets at the left. If you look at the Dock,
you’ll see we’ve also used folders to keep our
key apps organised.

Geniustip!
You don’t need to
unlock your iPad to
see your widgets when
your iPad has been
sleeping. Just press
the power button and
then swipe right.

Jargonbuster
Widgets are little
versions of apps that
provide at-a-glance
information. For
example, a Weather
widget shows the
immediate forecast.
