EXTENSIVE DEPTH-OF-FIELD
A possible problem you’ll encounter when you want
to maximise depth-of-field is a longer shutter speed,
which is the result of the reduced amount of light
entering the lens through a mid-to-small aperture.
Long shutter speeds can cause camera shake and
capture subject movement, to avoid these increase
your ISO to quicken your shutter speed and/or use a
tripod with a remote release to keep it steady.
SHALLOW DEPTH-OF-FIELD
The beauty of a shallow depth-of-field is the impact
a small, precise area of sharpness has as a focal point.
When working with a wide f/stop, however, your
plane of focus is very thin and the margin for error is
near to none. You have to be precise with your
focusing, which is why single-point AF or manual
focus is often the preferred method. Misfocus and
you’ll be left with a failed or out-of-focus image.
