youcanalreadydothis.Forthisworkshop,
you can use any yarn, but choose a hook
that’sa bitbiggerthanusualfortheyarn.
We’regoingtousea DKyarnanda 5mm
hook.Thehookneedstohavea straight
shaft that can hold 7 loops.

Startwitha foundationchain.Foreach
square,ch1foreachstitchandrow,plus 1
extra.Soforeachofour5x5squares,we’ll
chain 11 (5+ 5 + 1),plusweneedtoadd 1
chainattheveryend.Thisis a multipleof 11
+ 1.If youweremaking4x4squares,you’d
needa multipleof9 + 1;for6x6squares,
you’dneeda multipleof 13 + 1,andsoon.
Step 1 Tostarta practisepiece,ch23.Tostart
theForwardPass,inserthookinsecond
chainfromhook(youcaninsertintoeither
thechainfrontorthebackbump),yrh,pull
upa loop,leavingit onthehook(2loops).
Step 2 Repeatthisprocesstopullupa loop
inthenextchuntilyouhave6 loopsonthe
hook.Thefirstloopformsthesquare’sedge,
theother5 areyoursts.Pullupa loopinthe
nextchaintogiveyoua 7thloop.Thisfinal

Step 3 ForanEntrelacReturnPass,youdon’t
needtheusual‘ch1’.Instead,*yrhandpull
through2 loops;repeatfrom* untilone loop
remains.Thefirstrowis finished.
Step 4 ForthenextForwardPass,pullupa
loopineachverticalbarbelowuntilyouhave
6 loops.Togetthe7thandfinalloop, pull up
a loopinthenextunusedchain.
Step 5 WorktheEntrelac Return Pass as you
didinStep3.
Step 6 RepeatSteps 4-5 until you have 5
rows in total.
