We’llworkthenextlevelinthesame
colourasthefirstlevel(itmakesa nice
checkdpatern).We’regoingtoworktwo
squaresagain,toshowyouhowto
decrease the number of squares.
How do I decrease squares?
Next, work the third level andtrydecreasingsquares
Step 1 Todecreasebyonesquareatthestart
ofa newlevel,jointheyarnatthetop-right
ofthefirstsquareofthepreviousrow,inthe
firstss.Thisformsthefirstloopoftherow.
Step 2 Work this square as a Plain Square.
Step 3 Workthenextsquareasa Plain
Squareaswell.Youcanjuststophereand
youwillhavedecreasedonesquareatthe
endoftherow.Youwillhave 2 squares on
this finished third level.
Thereareplentyofpossibilitiesofwhateffectscanbeachieved
withTunisianentrelaccrochet,sograbsomesquared paper and
plansomethinggreat!Herearea fewideas.
Youcancontinuethefabricbyworkingmorelevelswithmoreor
fewersquares.Tocreatea triangularshawl,startwithonefoundation
levelsquareandincreaseatthestartandendofeverylevel.Ortry
startingwith 30 foundationlevelsquares,thenalternatebetween 29
and 30 on each level for a rectangular fabric with jagged edges.
TIPYou’llnoticethatTunisiancrochetdoeshavea tendencytocurl,
butyoucantamethiswith blocking, adding a dc edging, or by
addingmoresquares.
TIPChangeyarncolourbetweensquaresonthesamelevelatthe
endoftheslipstitchrowthatfinishesthesquare.Worktheyrhinthe
newyarncolouronthefinalslipstitchthat’sworkedintothefirstssof
thenextadjacentsquare.You’llhavea loopofthenewcolour on your
hook ready to work the next square in the new colour.
What do I do next?
Make more levels and other shapes
Step 1 Pullupa loopineachslipstitch(6
loops),thenpullupanextraloopinthefinal
foundationchaindowntheedgeofthe
squarebelow.Onthissquare,there’sno
foundationchaintojointoontheleft,sothe
extraloopwillhelpforma neatedge.
Step 2 Forthissquare,eachReturnPass
needstostartwitha ‘ch1’,so yrh and pull
throughthefirstloop.
Step 3 Continuebyrepeating‘yrhandpull
through2 loops’untilone loop remains, to
finishthefirstrow.
Step 4 Continuethesquareasfora standard
TSSpiece:pullupa loopineachverticalbar
(7loops)fortheForwardPass(makesurethe
hookgoesunder2 strandsofthelastbar);
worktheReturnPassasyoudidinSteps2-3.
Continueuntilyouhave5 rows,thenfinish
witha slipstitchrow(6ss).Fastenoff.The
second level is finished and has 3 squares.
