You did the intimate shows
recently. How enjoyable
were they?
Sara They were absolutely brilliant,
I loved them.
Keren They were hilarious. We didn’t
know what to expect and we thought,
“Well, let’s do a Q&A.” The questions
were hilarious, I loved those Q&As.
We played really small venues,
and that went down a storm. Playing
tracks from the new album was great,
and so was performing other songs
from our albums as a duo, as we’ve
never done those live. They were the
kind of songs you just can’t do at a
huge festival, because not everyone
will know them.
Sara You obviously have to put the
hits in at a festival, but that was a
great opportunity to play some
other favourites, both for us and for
the fans to see us do stuff they’d never
seen before.

Did that intimate feel inspire
any new music. Would you like
to make some songs a little
more stripped-back the next
time you tour??
KerenYeah, I quite liked doing some
of the songs more stripped down.
The only old ones we did were Venus
and Cruel Summer, which we did in
an acoustic, stripped-down way that
I really enjoyed. Singing with the band
with no clutter – no BVs or anything

like that – was great. Whether that will
infl uence new songs, who knows,
but we really enjoyed doing it. Maybe
we’ll go jazz. [Laughs]

On the previous tour, you got
back together with Siobhan
and now she’s reformed
Shakespears Sister. What did
you think when you saw that
was happening?
SaraShe really loved being on stage
again with us, having not done it in
so long. That’s obviously inspired
Siobhan to do it again. I hope it all
works out well for her. We had a real
laugh doing that tour, and it’s brilliant
that it’s helped Siobhan want to do
more of it.

Throughout it all, whatever
the professional relationship
has been like for 35 years, the
two of you have stayed
friends. How have you
managed that??
KerenWe’ve just been on holiday
together in the one week that we had
off. People have said, “Haven’t you
seen enough of each other?” Well,
evidently not!
SaraI think we just really complement
each other. Keren has a certain way
of doing things and so do I. We have
different strengths, and that probably
helps. If we were identical, we’d
probably clash, but where we do

match, it’s important – we have the
same humour and the same end goal
for what’s good for us. We just go
about that in slightly different ways.

How do you differ?
What can you do
that Keren can’t
and vice versa?
SaraI’m good
at everything.
KerenAnd I’m good
at everything, too.
SaraSo we are
identical. Oh no!
[Both laugh]

Will it be another 10 years
before the next album?
KerenNo.
SaraNo, defi nitely not. It’ll be
20 years. See you in 2039!
[Both laugh]

OTHER?’ WELL,

EVIDENTLY NOT!”
