andassistsocietiesthroughouttheworldto conservetheintegrityanddiversity
ofnatureandtoensurethatanyuseofnaturalresourcesisequitableand
ecologicallysustainable.
IUCNis lookingfora seasonedleadertoactastheCEOoftheUnionandthe
HeadoftheSecretariat.TheDirectorGeneralis responsibleandaccountable
totheCouncil,andthePresidentbetweenmeetingsoftheCouncil,forthe
effectiveimplementationofthepoliciesandprogrammesoftheUnion.The
DirectorGeneralpromotesthemissionofIUCNandleadstheimplementation
of the Union’s Global Programme as established by the Congress and
Council.S/hesupportsthe“OneProgrammeCharter”andensuresthatthe
differentpartsofIUCN:Members,asrepresentedbyNationalandRegional
Committees,Commissionsand facilitatedbytheSecretariat,worktogether
todevelop,implementandadvanceIUCN’sProgrammeofwork.TheDirector
Generalpromotespartnershipswithrelevantprivate,public,developmentand
non-governmentalsectorstoenhancetheglobalvisibility andbroadenthe
influenceoftheUnionandrepresentandpromotethenatureconservationand
ecologicallysustainabledevelopmentagendainglobalpublicpolicyarenas.
WithintheSecretariat,theDirectorGeneralensuresfinancialsustainabilityby
expandinganddiversifyingfundingsourcesbymobilizingnewandinnovative
sourcesof revenueto supporttheactivitiesof theUnion.
