Add some warm colour into the scene
In the Layers palette click on the Create New Fill or
Adjustment Layer icon, and choose Solid Color. In the
Color Picker, choose a warm yellow, and click OK, then in the
Layers palette, click where it says Normal and choose the Pin
Light Blending Mode from the list.

Use the Brush to paint
colour where it’s wanted
Click on the Solid Color layer’s
Layer Mask, and press Ctrl+I to invert it,
turning it black. Now, pick your custom
cloud Brush and set 100% Flow and 10%
Opacity, and paint white into the mask to
bring back the colour where you want it,
like on the subject here. Remember, you
can drop the Opacity of the Layer later, so
be bold. Again, vary the size of the brush,
as you build up the effect so that it has
variety and depth. You can add other
colours to the image too. Here we’ve
added a second Solid Color layer, using
a complementary cooler blue colour, and
masked elements of that into the sky for
a more dramatic finish. Once you’re happy,
go to Layer>Flatten Image and press
Ctrl+U, increase the Saturation if desired,
then hit OK.

USES FOR BRUSHES

When you’re comfortable making this kind of
brush, you’ll quickly build up a collection, so
how else can they be used? One great way is
to make simple textures to use on your images.
To do it, go to File>New, then choose the size
you want (A4 is good), set white as the colour
and click OK. Next, with your cloud brush set to
black at a low Opacity, paint over the new
s again and again until you build
a texture. Vary the Size of the
rush as you work for a less
uniform look. When you’ve
created a texture you’re happy
with, go to File>Save As and
save it into a folder for your
own texture library.
