Ensure your background remains blurred
After you’ve removed the blur from the subject, you’ll
need to ensure you haven’t removed any other blur,
su ch as the smaller gaps between the subject and background.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 to add new short Paths and bring backthe
bl ur as needed.

Add a mask for precisionediting
For precision around the subject, add a Layer Mask by
clicking on the Add layer mask icon in the Layers palette.
Using a soft-edged black Brush Tool (B), click to paint where you
want to remove the effect. Right-click on the Layer Mask and
choose Apply Layer Mask to permanently add it to your selection.

Inject movement into the
wheels with Spin Blur
Go to Filter>Blur Gallery>Spin
Blur. You will see a large circle with five
anchor points. The four blur points control
the diameter, with a pair each for the X and
Y axis, and the white diamond controls the
overall diameter while also constraining
the proportions. Click and drag on these
points to fit the circle to your wheel, or
anywhere you need to apply the Spin Blur.
You can rotate it by clicking and dragging
just outside the circle. When you’re happy
with the fit, use the four internal points to
increase or decrease the area of effect,
and use the Blur Angle slider, found on the
right in the Blur Tools palette, to increase
or decrease the power of the spin effect
and click OK. When you’re happy with the
blur effects, go to Layer>Flatten Image,
and save your image with a new filename.

EXPERT ADVICE GET TO

KNOWTHE BLUR GALLERY

In this tutorial, we have covered both Path and
Spin Blur, though the Blur Gallery also contains
Field, Iris and Tilt-Shift. Each is considered to
be a lens blur effect, and each has its own uses.
Field Blur allows you to build a gradient of blurs
by adding multiple points and dictating the
amount of blur individually. Iris Blur can
te depth-of-field in an image,
wing you to set the point you
ant to remain sharp, and fading
everything else out of focus.
Tilt-Shift, which is best known
for creating a toy-town look in
photos, gives you a single plane
of sharpness, with everything
else falling into blur.
