viewfinder too dark to focus
and expose, so set up first
before you attach
the filter.

n TAKE YOURSHOT
Set your camerato aperture-priority
mode, selectan apertureof f/16and
an ISO of 100. The shutter speed will
likely be around 1/100sec. Focus on
the building and take the shot.

n MAKE A SELECTION
Open your image in Photoshop and
select the Polygonal Lasso Tool from
the Toolbar. Click on the edge of the
sky where it meets the building and
carefully trace around the sky to
make a selection.

n SEPARATE THE SKY
Head up to Edit>Copy, then go to
Layer>New>Layer Via Copy. Then
select the layer that appears in the

Layerspalette,holdCtrlandclickon
th e thumbnail.Go toSelect>Inverse
tofliptheselection.Selectyour
background layer and go to Layer>
New>Layer Via Copy. You should
now have a layer for your sky and
one for the buildings. Click and drag
the building layer to the top of the
stack of layers in the Layers palette.

n BLUR THE SKY
Select the sky layer and then go
to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur. In the
dialogue box that appears, choose
a Distance of 250 Pixels and hit
OK. Hold Ctrl+T while you drag the
corner of the sky layer to enlarge it,
and the same on the far corner. Save
your image with File>Save As.
