The light there
brings out such
intense colours. To create the
minimalist look, I had to be
mindful of the light. The pool
image was taken late in the
day as I had to wait for people
to leave. The Miami beach hut
image owes its power to the
la ck of light, though it wasn’t
until later in the day that
I realised this. Thank you storm
cl ouds! As I was composing
the shopping trolleys, with
the gorgeous red wall behind,
I noticed a crow was hopping
ar ound. It was then a waiting
game for it to fly off, whichit

samebroad appeal as classic
landscapes or dramatic

quadtych has a striking
aesthetic appeal all of its own.
The beach hut shot aside,

photo. The way that the large
blocks of colour work together
to form a cohesive body of
work is fabulous, and there’s
a lovely bit of whimsy running
through the shots too, from

Beautiful images are
always to be admired, and
telling a story through your
photography is a special
gift; that’s what David has
achieved here. Try it yourself

    Great work David, and
    please keep exercising your
    photographic eye for the
    unusual and unexpected.

David linked four images, but the classical
series is a triptych – three photographs that
tell a story. Landscapes and architecture
make great subjects for a triptych. Using
a kit zoom lens you can take an establishing
shot of your subject and then zoom in for
a mid-range and then a close-up image.
When the shots are presented together, you
will have a linked photographic narrative of
the subject. See p63 for more on triptychs.
