CharlesLeclercfi nis hed theUS GP in fourth, nearly
a minute behind Bottas. He was the soleFerrari for
most of the afternoon (team-mateVettel retired

When third-placedVerstappen was asked
whether he was surprised at a sudden downturn
in performancefor Ferrari, he replied with a broad
smile and said: “Not surprised at all.”
Earlier in the weekend it was revealed thatRed

potential loophole regarding fuel-flow regulations.
The governing body then issued atechnical
directive that declaredany scenario whereby fuel
fl ow ratesexceeded the permitted limit were illegal.

The enquiry came after teams expressed

German GP,team bossToto Wolff was careful notto
attributeFerrari’s deficitto the recent FIAdirective.
“Certainly the threeteams were much closer
toge ther interms of straightline performance here
in theUS,” he said. “But I wouldn’t say this is down
to any specific event.”
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto said he
was “annoyed”by the rumours. He added that a
set-up change had ledto an increased downforce
configuration, and thatLeclerchad beenforced to
run anolde r-spec enginein t he race.
“We know we are legaland the FIA is controlling
our package every single race,”said Binotto. “They
are inspecting all the data that isavailableto them
and hopefully they will clarifyto everybody that
what we have got is legal and we are not cheating.”
