radio announcer voice. Most of us don't. Someone with a voice like that can do a
great job of narrating, but it can come across as too slick or even phony.
There are other reasons to do your own narration. It will make you more
confident about your ability to speak and present. That will come in handy if you
do webinars or podcasts or are asked to speak at an event. When you get your
own voice out there, your audience will start to recognize it, so when they see
your VSL, it will match the voice they remember from the webinar or interview
you did. You will always sound like you, but if you use a voiceover artist, what
if you want more recording done and that person isn't available?
You can get a VSL recorded much faster by doing it yourself than waiting for a
professional to do it. This makes it more practical to record multiple versions for
testing and for targeting different audiences or angles. It also makes it much
easier to make changes to your video if you can just record the new lines
yourself in a few minutes.
There are two main reasons I can think of where it might make sense to
outsource your narration. One is if you have a very thick accent that makes it too
hard for others to understand what you're saying. The other is if you think an
opposite-sex voice would be better to tell the story. For example, with that men's
weight loss product, it would make more sense to have a male voice narrating it.
