A black & white picture of two
lions has won the Lumix People’s
Choice Award in the Wildlife
Photographer of the Year.
The picture by David Lloyd
received the most votes after
16,000 people voted in the
competition. David said: ‘I’m
so pleased this image did well
because it illustrates the emotion
and feeling of animals and
emphasises that this is not limited
to humans. It is something I think
more people need to be aware of
for the sake of all animals.’
The photograph is showcased
at the Wildlife Photographer
of the Year exhibition, which
continues at the Natural History
Museum in London until 30 June.

HIGH CONTRAST

A collection of photographs
of important moments in British
theatre has been acquired by
the V&A in London.
The pictures were taken by
Ivan Kyncl, a Czech political
refugee who captured key
theatrical figures and some of
the greatest plays, operas and
musicals on the British stage
in the post-war period. The
Ivan Kyncl Theatrical Archive
comprises 100,000 negatives,
including pictures of actors such
as Fiona Shaw, Alan Rickman
and Antony Sher, as well as
playwrights Arthur Miller,
Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard.
Kyncl travelled to major
theatres around the UK and was
given rare access to roam the
space and create dynamic new
perspectives. An exhibition of his
work, Ivan Kyncl: In the Minute,
runs at the V&A until 7 July.
