TWO INTERFACES
By default the M200 uses Canon’s Guided interface,
but this can be changed to the Standard interface
with customisable My Menu section, via the Display
Level setting in the main menu.

WI-FI AND BLUETOOTH
Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enables the
M200 to connect quickly to a smartphone for easy
image sharing and remote control, via Canon’s free
Camera Connect app.

4K VIDEO
The M200 applies a 1.6x crop to the framing when
the video is set to 4K. This means the 15-45mm kit
lens acts like a 38.4-115mm in 35mm terms.

POP-UP FLASH
Although it doesn’t have a hot shoe for mounting
an external flashgun, the M200 has a small pop-up
flash with a guide number of 5m at ISO 100.

DUAL PIXEL CMOS AF
All the pixels on the M200’s sensor have two
photodiodes, and their signals are read separately
to enable phase detection autofocussing. However,
they are read together for image creation.

FLIP SCREEN
The touchscreen can flip up through 180 degrees
to be viewed in front of the camera. A record icon
makes it easier to start/stop recording video.

autofocussing and 6.1fps in single AF mode is
reasonable for an entry-level camera.
Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is
one of the most capable when it comes to
shooting video or stills in Live View mode on a
DSLR, and it gives good service in the M200
with up to 143 autofocus (AF) points (the
exact number depends upon the lens in use).
That’s up from 49 with the M100.
Unusually, there’s no AI servo made that can
switch automatically between One Shot (single
AF) and AI Servo (continuous AF) mode when
subject movement is detected. That’s not a
huge drama for enthusiast photographers, but
it means that beginners need to learn which
option to use with their subject.
The M200 allows individual AF points to be
selected, or there’s Zone AF mode that gives
