Olympus has given the OM-D E-M5 Mark III
the same 20.4MP sensor and TruePic VIII
processing engine as the OM-D E-M1 Mark II,
but the processor has been given a bit of a refresh with
some reworked algorithms to make it a little snappier.
Olympus has also shrunk the 5-axis image
stabilisation (IS) system, which means that the
E-M5 III is smaller than the E-M5 II. However, the
IS performance has been improved with a claimed
shutter speed compensation of up to 6.5EV.
The E-M5 III inherits the E-M1 II’s 121-point (all cross-
type) autofocus (AF) system that uses both phase
and contrast detection, and the AF algorithm has been
reworked to make the system more sensitive.
Along with the regular continuous shooting mode
that has a top speed of 10fps, the E-M5 III has
Olympus’s Pro Capture mode that enables shooting at
up to 30fps.
There’s also good news for videographers as the
E-M5 III can shoot C4K 24p video at up to 237Mbps.
Alternatively, Full HD video can be sh0t at up to 120p
for slow-motion playback. There’s also a Flat picture
mode that gives a bit more scope for colour grading.

Following on from its X Summit
announcements, Fujifilm has revealed
more information about the X-Pro3.
As predicted, it has the same 26.1MP APS-C
format back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 4
sensor and X-Processor 4 processing engine
as the X-T3 and X-T30. However, the top and
bottom plates are made from titanium while
the front and back plates are magnesium alloy.
There’s also a new ‘Advanced Hybrid
Viewfinder’ that combines a 3.69 million-dot
OLED panel with an optical viewfinder. Fujifilm
has also introduced a new Classic Neg. Film
Simulation mode that is said to simulate the
colour negative film that was once used for
everyday snapshots, and new firmware enables
the AF system to operate at -6EV.
What makes the rangefinder-style mirrorless
camera stand out most, however, is the fact
that there’s a 1.28-inch screen on its back
that shows the film simulation mode and
exposure details. It’s only when the back panel
of the camera is tilted down that the 3-inch
1.62-million-dot LCD screen becomes visible.
