Light is easier and nicer to work with
when it’s softened. There’s a reason
landscape photographers go out first
thing in the morning and towards
the end of the day. Although we
were after an intense and shadowed
result for our crisps, we didn’t want
our key light to be illuminating just
one concentrated area. By placing a
diffuser panel in front of the external
flashgun (key light) we can spread
light and make it softer. Another way
you can do this is with a softbox, but
a round panel is a quick, cheap and
easy way to create the right light with
