adopted and fathered by a local
scientist, but are largely rejected
by the local community and are
considered outcasts. One day the
duo’s father goes missing, and
while searching their home they
stumble upon a mysterious portal
in the basement that leads to the
underworld, where goblins live. Putting
two and two together, the twins come
to the conclusion that their guardian
has been kidnapped. They begin to
mount a daring rescue mission, where
they discover that the dastardly
goblins are trying to invade the earth.

Double trouble
You won’t spend all your time
adventuring. During the daylight hours,
everything seems normal and you can
chat to people in the streets, some of
whom may offer you quests. You can
go shopping for outfits, or even head
to the gym to level up and become
stronger. At night time, however,

you risk your lives to prevent the
destruction of the town, and protect
the unknowing citizens.
With sword and shield in hand,
you’ll hack and slash your way through
up to 70 dungeons in either single-
player or two-player local co-op.
Before venturing into each dungeon,
you have the opportunity to gear up,
selecting which weapons or armour
to use. Although you can mix and
match your equipment, you’ll need
to be quite tactical in your choices
as each item is weighted and affects
how you play. Select a heavy sword
with a full suit of armour, for example,
and you’ll be able to hit hard but your
movements will be sluggish. Clad
yourself in lighter protection and pick
up two daggers, however, and you’ll
be able to zip around the playing field,
but the enemies will require more hits
to go down.
A lot of love and attention has
gone into Young Souls, particularly
its animation. Not only does each
character possess a lot of expression
and personality, but the transition
animations whenever you go from
scene to scene are beautiful. No
release date or targeted platforms
have been confirmed just yet, so we’re
keeping our fingers crossed for a
release on Xbox One soon. Q

You’d be forgiven for thinking that
this side-scrolling RPG beat-’em-up
is a family-friendly romp that takes
you to strange and unusual lands,
thanks to its cartoon-like hand-
drawn aesthetic... but you’d be wrong.
Granted, you do get to travel to an
outlandish world, but you’ll do so with
two particularly sweary siblings.
Young Souls takes place in a sleepy
town where not much happens,
at least above the surface. The
game follows the lives of two young
orphaned twins named Jenn and
Tristan. Both brother and sister were
