BREAKING DOWN THE HUD
1 CREW
Here you’ll find the
status of your crew and
whether or not they’re
ready to deploy their
skills. A red skull will
appear to let you know if
someone has been downed.
Retrieve their remains and
they’ll respawn quicker.
2 WEAPONS
The cooldowns for each of
your weapons will appear
on either side of your
health bar. Different
armaments have their own
cooldowns, but thankfully
you can holster one and
shoot with another while
it reloads.3 TEAMS
Retrieval matches will
consist of two teams of
five going up against
each other. This allows
for a certain level of
flexibility when choosing
a crew. A maximum of two
players on each team can
select the same crew.4 Objectives
Important locations will
appear on your UI. You
won’t be able to pick up
items yourself, but you
can command crew members
to do that for you. Make
sure you keep them alive,
or they will drop what
they are carrying.This effectively ends Romer’s career,
and he finds himself working as a repo
man, finding grav cycles to give over
to the Rayonne. He hates this, so in an
effort to redeem himself, he decides
instead to start selling grav cycles on
the black market to a resistance group
called the Human Liberation Coalition.
But, of course, he gets caught and
imprisoned. After somehow escaping,
he joins up with a group of outlaws
and the HLC to take on the Rayonne in
guerilla warfare skirmishes.Living in a box
Unlike the Rayonne, the members of
the HLC want to keep what’s left of
their humanity intact, so it’s important
for them to behave and dress as
closely as possible to their previoushuman existences. “This was part of
a core element that I felt was really
important about the characters of our
game, to make sure that human part
of them still remains,” Lehto tells us.
But this core story hides a much
darker element. The Rayonne,
being mostly machine and all, can’t
procreate naturally so they start
harvesting what’s left of the remaining
humans. They use these ‘healthy
naturals’, as they call them, to create
more Integrated, to the point where
they might even create farms where
humans are harvested and bred.
Unsurprisingly, not everyone agrees
with this, so Romer forms a group of
outlaw Integrated to do whatever they
possibly can to save what’s left of
humanity from being eradicated by theenemy. These outlaws are, of course,
being hunted by the Rayonne
“That’s the darker side of the
fiction that we’re getting into as
the fiction continues to grow,” says
Lehto. “Humans that not only are kept
for nefarious reasons, but there are
humans who are also playing double
agents on either side of things.”Forget all you know
Disintegration comes in two parts,
a campaign and multiplayer. Our
hands-on time with the game consists
of several rounds of the multiplayer
component, and before we get stuck
in, we’re instructed by Lehto to throw
everything we know about playing
first-person shooters out of the
