wheel. These appear as holographic

It’s also worth noting that none of
these customisation options will
change the way the crews play.

Full circle
In terms of visuals, Disintegration
has drawn plenty of comparisons
to Halo and Destiny, but that’s to
be expected due to Lehto having
his hand in creating much of the
characters, vehicles and buildings in
those universes. “It’s part of my DNA,

it’s my style,” assures Lehto. “It’s
like going to see a movie by a certain
director where you expect a certain
kind of experience. It’s the same thing
with the game. I have a particular style
that I love, and I adhere to. It shows
itself in Halo and part of that might be
seen in the DNA of Destiny. But to be
clear, Destiny was a game designed
and built by a whole different group
of people that I’m still good friends
with at Bungie. Of course, there is a
little bit that carries over from the Halo
team, to the Destiny team, it’s just

“We were in this void of

trying to make something

completely unique”

6 THE SIDESHOW
These crazy cats have
an affinity for clowns.
They might have middling
stats and have access to
only one weapon, sticky
grenades, but they make
up for it by having the
largest crew with four
ground troops.

5 LOST RONIN
Possibly our favourite
faction so far, not only
do these guys possess
seeker rockets, they
also use a high-accuracy
scoped weapon. They look
incredibly awesome,
too, with their samurai-
inspired aesthetic.

4 KING’S GUARD
As the name suggests, this
group clearly has a thing
for nobility, and fits
into a crowd control role,
thanks to its ability to
slow down enemies and
heal allies over time.
Its ground troops favour
mines and rockets.

3 TECH NOIR
This crew is a good
choice if you’re a more
support-oriented gamer,
offering healing abilities
to fellow team members.
Utilised well, you can
keep your team-mates alive
while they unleash hell
on the enemy.

part of who they are, and it’s part of
who I am. I embrace that and want to
make sure that what we are doing with
Disintegration feels different overall.”
Disintegration is set to make an
impact on the future of shooters and
V1 is already prepared to bring us
more. “The fiction is big, it’s much
bigger than this one game,” explains
Lehto. “We understood that from the
very beginning. What we’re going to do
is tell this portion that makes sense,
it’s concise, and has a beginning,
middle and end that feels really solid
and satisfying, but also fits within
the big global fiction of what this
universe we’re building has in store.
We’re in it for the long haul when it
comes to building this game. If things
go well, we hope to continue the story
because there’s a lot more to tell.” Q.

ABOVE Romer’s
our hero in
Disintegration,
but he’s done
some shady stuff
in the past.
