Columbia Pictures’ Ghost Corps Inc is focused on expanding the GB universe with new films, games etc

ground will keep it subdued until the
trap sucks it in. The ghosts will try to
escape your stream’s grip, requiring
continued focus, and you do feel
like you’re wrangling them. When
there are multiple apparitions, the
others will rush-attack you and throw
objects at you, causing you to lose
your grip, lowering your health bar and
knocking you down. Your Ghostbuster
buddies can revive you, ditto you can
go to their aid. Honestly, it’s a shame
there’s no multiplayer, because it
would work so well.

’Fraid of no ghosts
Some ghosts create minions to attack
you in numbers, which can’t be caught,
only destroyed with a blast from your
pack. If everyone’s down it’s game over,
and at times it’s borderline infuriatingly
hard. Pressing B allows you to jump
or evade, but it’s hard to dodge those
charging ghosts. You also have to
watch out for ‘total protonic reversal’,
ie: knocking yourself out with your own
proton stream. Oh, and, don’t cross the
streams. It would be bad.

There’s no HUD, adding to the
cinematic aesthetic – instead
everything is displayed, albeit rather
obliquely, on your proton pack. Visually
there’s been plenty of polish added,
but in places it still feels a little last-
gen – the lip-syncing is a little off,
and some cutscenes haven’t been
upgraded at all. Still, the likenesses
of the characters in particular now
benefit from the extra visual fidelity.
The game doesn’t try to reinvent
anything about Ghostbusters, which
is good. Where movies feel they have
to change to progress a franchise,
what we want from a tie-in is to step
right into those movies and play a part
in the action that we love so much.
Consequently, you’ll find fan favourite
ghosts such as Slimer, the librarian
and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man,
and plenty of familiar settings, such

as the New York Public Library and the
Sedgewick Hotel. Hell, even the pink
mood-slime’s back.
It’s the perfect fan service addition
to the Ghostbusters canon, and
regardless of the all-female reboot or
upcoming Ghostbusters 2020, this still
stands up as that ‘third film’. The fact
that it’s also a very good game frankly
makes our toaster dance. Q

THERE IS
NO DANA...
While Sigourney
Weaver’s Dana Barrett
and Rick Moranis’
Louis Tully are absent,
literally everyone else
was on board for this.
Annie Potts reprises
her role as
Ghostbusters
secretary Janine,
William Atherton is
back as ‘pencil-neck’
bureaucrat Walter
Peck, Max Von
Sydow’s back as Vigo
The Carpathian and
Bill’s Murray’s brother,
Brian Doyle Murray, is
New York’s mayor.
Interestingly, Weaver
initially said no but
changed her mind
when she found out
Murray had signed up,
but it was too late to
get her involved.
