their surprise rise into La Liga’s top four.

“We made

history, but our

job is not done”

Canada coach John Herdman after a 2-0 win against USA in the CONCACAF
Nations League, their first victory over their neighbours in 34 years

Nicknamed “The Kobra” by fans of MLS
side Dallas, the striker received a shock
first call-up to the Czech national squad
at the age of 30 and scored the winning
goal on his debut in a 2-1 victory over
England in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
“I just wanted to hit the ball right and
put it in the net,” says Ondrasek, who
came on as a substitute and put the
Czechs into the second place in the
group. “I saw tears in the eyes of my
father probably for the first time in my
life. It’s a great win and a great feeling.”
The shaven-headed forward, who has
not played in his home country since
2011, then started the friendly against
Northern Ireland and provided assists
for both Czech goals in a 3-2 defeat.
Admitting to past problems with “diet,
smoking and playing slot machines”, he
was with Tromso in Norway and Poland’s
Wisla Krakow before moving to MLS
earlier this year.

ALESSANDRO BASTONI
(Internazionale)
The Italy under-21 centre-back had a
fine Serie A debut against Sampdoria.

RAYAN CHERKI
(Lyon)
New Lyon boss Rudi Garcia appeased
fans by including the exciting attacking
prospect in his first squad.

FABIO SILVA
(Porto)
Aged 17 years and three months, he
became Porto’s youngest-ever scorer
with a goal in the Portuguese Cup.
