of course, The Fish On The
Floor. My first and arguably,
most important moral choice! I save
the fish, because I’m not a monster. Oh,
also there was a little girl on the roof
or something, I think. The main thing is,
I save the fish.
Next, I take control of Markus. I look
around this futuristic Detroit, and wish I
could explore the city rather than being
compelled to buy some paint. I continue
my thrilling adventure by making my
way to the bus stop.
A few hours later, I’ve met most of
the main characters, including little
Alice, whose portrayal convinces me
that David Cage has never met (or
been) a human child. Perhaps he can

murders Alice’s cartoonishly troubled
father right in front of her. I do this
accidentally. In a QTE, I reach for what
I don’t realise is a gun, and Kara then
shoots unprompted. Whoops!
Once Markus’ human Carl swiftly dies
from a heart attack/Lance Henriksen’s
acting fees, his story becomes
disturbing for the wrong reasons.
Later, leading a group of rebel androids
vandalising a town square, I choose the
peaceful route of graffiti. Tag options
include misappropriations of quotes
from Martin Luther King and Black Lives
Matter, which disturbs me deeply.
There are things I like. Connor is a
memorable character, superbly acted.
I really enjoy the warm relationship
between Carl and Markus, too, which
really ought to have been a pillar of the
story rather than a domino set to fall.
I’ll finish Detroit now that I’ve started
it, but through an android-like need to
finish a task rather than a human-like
sense of enjoyment.
WHO?
Luke Kemp loves
nothing better
than a story-heavy
game... as long as
the story is good.
After hearing bad
things about this
one, he initially gave
it a miss.

QIt’s hardly surprising Good Cop Connor seems to be everyone’s favourite android. I can’t buy into
Kara and Alice’s relationship at all. Neither character is given room to develop.
DETROIT:
BECOME HUMAN
I’M CONVINCED
THAT DAVID CAGE HAS
NEVER MET (OR BEEN)
A HUMAN CHILD.
WHAT?
From the studio
behind Heavy Rain and
Beyond: Two Souls,
Detroit is a sci-fi
narrative adventure
set in a world full of
androids, with a
heavy emphasis on
player choice.
