While I have your
attention, can you
persuade the PS team
making the new console to
do it from mostly recycled
plastic? Considering the
amount they shift they
could really do their bit.

PS-gimme-5
I’m really excited to get
my hands on a PS5. The
thought of those boosted
graphics and improved
sound all around me –
even without PS VR, I’m
going to be living the
dream! I’ll almost be able
to smell those Clickers in
The Last Of Us, feel my
car hitting the gravel in a
racer, maybe even hear
my end of the stadium
supporting me when I’m
doing well in FIFA. (Yeah,
that doesn’t happen very
often!) I just hope I can
afford it as it sounds like
it’ll be pricy.

PS5 certainly looks like
delivering a greater

For 5’s sake
Haptic controls on the
PS5 are all very well, but
has Sony thought about
those of us with limited
dexterity in our hands?
I’m worried I won’t have
the fine motor control
formakingreallyprecise

moves, and PS5 is going
to leave me behind.
Kevin Watson via email

Accessibility’s something
the game industry is
increasingly concerned
with, and while Sony
hasn’t released masses
of information on the
haptic feedback in the
new controller, it has
described the triggers
as ‘adaptive’. We’d be
amazed if there
weren’t customisation
options built in.
Everybody should be
abletoenjoygames.

Soul point
Can reviewers stop
referring to things
in relation to Dark
Souls? Not everything’s
comparable to that game,
you know.
Jen Carrington via email

Ah, the Dark Souls of
letters page questions...
Don’t look at us like that!
It’s such an iconic game,
it sparked a genre. We
can’tignorethat.

Star letter No politics!
A website which shall remain nameless
(okay, it was GamesRadar) had an
interview with Hideo Kojima where
he linked Brexit and Trump to Death
Stranding. I’ve been looking forward
to that game since it was announced,
because the Beached Things and Bridge
Babies really caught my imagination, but
now I don’t want it at all. Why do devs
insist on putting politics in games and
spoiling things? I play games to escape
from all that sort of thing!
Ben Jenkins via email

Kojima was really talking about the
way current events have divided

people, and how Death Stranding is
suggesting we need to reconnect
divided societies, not criticising
specific figures or ideologies. We
don’t think you’ll regret buying it –
turn to p76 for our review.
It’s pretty much impossible to avoid
politics in games in some form or
other as so many reflect relationships
between people (even if that’s in
war). The choice of who to include or
leave out, the approach to violence,
how the game portrays work, wages
and economic structures... unless
you’re prepared to spend your gaming
life playing nothing but Crash Team
Racing, you might as well embrace it!

WHY DO DEVS INSIST ON
PUTTING POLITICS IN GAMES
AND SPOILING THINGS? I PLAY
GAMES TO ESCAPE.
