“He did exactly what Cap would do. He sacrificed

himself and literally went down with the

Helicarrier,” says Lynch. “Even though his

absence is felt throughout the story, and he may

be gone, he’s not forgotten.” That might be the

case, but our knowledge of how hard it must

have been to develop his unique fighting style

leaves us wondering quite how permanent his

death may be... An accomplished melee fighter,

his shield strikes and hand-to-hand combat

feels visceral. The option to use his shield to

defend or ricochet into enemies is pure Cap.

W

e’ve yet to dive into how the team will play together when you

join your friends for a spot of co-op action (cross your fingers

for some fastball specials), but we do know that each character

in a WarZonewillhaveto be distinct. “We built thegamesothatthe

team composition will follow the story of the Avengers team,” the game’s

editorial director, Casey Lynch, explains to us. “So no, there will not be

four Hulks.” Okay, we’ll have to draw straws in the office for that one. But

here’s everything we doknowaboutthecurrently announced big six!

C

rystalDynamicshaspromised more heroes and more story will

be added to the game post-launch, over time, and completely for

free. So who else could we be stepping into the spandex of? We’ve

already seen Hank Pym serving as part of The Avengers’ support team,

so Ant-Man seems a likely candidate, as is Captain Marvel, given that

Ms. Marvel’s her number one fan. The Terrigen Mist that gives Ms. Marvel

her powers might hint that we’ll be seeing more familiar faces from the

Inhumans pantheon of characters, which could work out nicely thanks to

their presence as part of the MCU’s next phase of movies. We also spied

Avengers Tower in the PS4-exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man game, so might

the wall-crawler himself eventually pop up? With 80 years of superhero

history to draw on, the sky’s the limit for Crystal Dynamics.
