I can verify that the information found
on Jackson’s website is indeed correct.
This range offers smooth, non-chalky and
highly pigmented colours, which are ideal
for artists who use a lot of paint and who
want high pigment levels in their everyday
colours. The range includes 32 highly
lightfast colours, none of which contain
fillers, toxic pigments or heavy metals.
The acrylics offer a slightly more
heavy body consistency than Jackson’s
professional ‘Artist’ acrylic range, and
dry to a beautiful satin finish. They also
come in handy, easy to use bottles.
Colours
On testing the Studio Acrylics, the
range of 32 colours was not found
wanting and will more than meet your
needs. It includes the basic warm and
cool primaries, as well as all the earth
colours, a good selection of blues and
greens, and a number of ‘power’ colours,
such as magenta and dioxazine violet.
Straight from the bottle the Jackson’s
Studio range is indeed smooth and
non-chalky. The colours have punch and
I especially liked the cadmium red hue.
When trying out any new medium
I usually put it through its paces by
making a range of marks and generally
experimenting with the paint to find out
more about its capabilities. This sheet
(right) lets me see how the paints glaze,
mix and stand up to different applications
and techniques, such as scumbling, wet
on wet, wet on dry and manipulating
edge quality. Jackson’s Studio Acrylics
performed well, offering a richness
of colour and ease of application that
make them a pleasure to work with.
When the sheet was dry, they did
indeed dry to a sheen that’s not
evident in my usual paints.
Using the acrylics
Jackson’s Studio Acrylics were also
used in my art classes and the biggest
difference I noticed from the start was
their consistency. I normally use an
enamel plate for a palette and place
the paints around the rim to keep them

were vibrant and easy to work with. I particularly like the cadmium red hue.
