Uncomplicated quality
The Jackson’s Studio range comes
in 200ml and 500ml bottles, and the
titanium white is available in a 1000ml
bottle. All three sizes come in a
no-frills squeezable bottle with a
small nozzle for precise application
so there’s really no waste. I found
this useful for applying paint straight
from the tube, direct to small areas
of the paintings.
All the colours I normally use are
available in the range, and at the time
of writing the 200ml bottles were
retailing at £5.30. The paints are
also available in sets of four and ten
colours. By cutting out distributors
and wholesalers, Jackson’s are able
to offer their own good-quality studio

paint at a very affordable price.
Although this means they’re not
available in art shops – except in
Jackson’s two outlets in London and
a warehouse shop in Gloucester –
you can order them from Jackson’s
mail-order catalogue or online at
jacksonsart.com.
I’ve been buying from Jackson’s
for many years and have always
had excellent service with a quick
turnaround on orders. It’s important
to trust your materials in the
knowledge they’re up to the job. The
Jackson’s Studio Acrylics range offers
competitively priced and quality
paints that perform consistently well.
I have used them exclusively over the
past couple of weeks in all my classes
and they are a great addition to my
palette. Don’t take my word for it; try
them for yourself. LP

primaries I use are chosen for their
ability to give me decent secondary
colours and good dark values when
I need them. Using the transparent
colours of ultramarine, crimson and
lemon yellow, the Jackson’s Studio
range performed well.
The acrylics can be used straight
from the bottle, thick like oils, or
diluted for a watercolour technique.
The primary colours performed well
when diluted. Experimenting with
the earth colours, using watercolour
techniques and diluted nicely, once
again worked well.
The sheen I observed in the initial
test sheet straight from the bottle
was not as noticeable in the finished
painting and some parts had more
sheen than others. I put it down to
the amounts of water I used to
dilute the paint. This can be avoided
