Step 7
1 In the final stages we need to add the
bright colours, which demonstrates the
advantage of working with gouache as
these colours can easily be put on top
of the underlying greens and will cover
beautifully. The pink rhododendrons are
mixed from the primary red and white
then darkened for the shadow colour with
raw umber. This is painted on first, with
a second, lighter shade subsequently
applied on top, and finally the highlights
of cleaner, brighter pinks are added.
t
2 The darker red rhododendrons are
painted with a mix of red and a touch
of black for the darks and pure primary
red for the highlights.
3 The oranges of the day lilies are a mix
of red and yellow with the slightest touch
of raw umber and finally a couple of
mixes of pale pink are put in the lower
left corner.
4 The final step is to put your signature
on the finished painting and I chose to
do this with the pale pink already used.
