nThe Society of Women Artists
The 158th annual Society of Women Artists’ exhibition
takes place at the Mall Galleries in London from 24 to 29
September, with a handing-in day of 27 July. For full

n The Big Draw
Founded in 2000, the Big Draw is an arts education
charity that promotes visual literacy and the universal
language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression
and invention. Throughout the year, The Big Draw
supports professional and emerging artists through
exhibitions, regular events, awards, competitions and
research projects. These events culminate in the Big Draw
Festival held in October, this year with the theme ‘Drawn
to Life’. Events and workshops take place all over the

Gallery’s Sorolla: Spanish
Master of Lightexhibition at
the National Gallery, London,
until 7 July. Pianist, Marta
Espinós will perform a
selection of pieces linked to
the artist’s portraits, beach
scenes and passion for the
colours and light of
Andalusia. The concert takes
place in Room 8 from 6.30 to
7.30pm on Friday 5 July.

Outdoor painting
Popular artist and tutor, Stephen Yates, will lead an
en plein airpainting day, using acrylics and
watercolours at Sculpture by the Lake in Dorset on
Sunday 28 July, 10.30 am to 4.30pm. The course is
aimed at beginners to intermediate artists and will use
the inspiring landscape around the venue for the day
spent selecting and sketching your composition before
moving on to underpainting, blocking in, colour
mixing and paint handling. For full details visit
