Get started
With Sidecar
Turn your iPad into a screen for your Mac
using Apple’s new Sidecar feature
IT WILL TAKE
5 minutes
YOU WILL LEARN
To use your iPad as
a second screen
for your Mac
YOU’LL NEED
macOS Catalina,
iPadOS, iCloud
account, Wi-Fi
network
One of the coolest new
features in macOS Catalina
and iPadOS is Sidecar, which
enables you to use your iPad
as a second screen for your Mac. Sidecar is
really useful, as you can do all sorts of things
with that second screen. You could leave your
web browser or Mail app on the Sidecar screen
so that it’s always visible, while you work with
other apps on your Mac’s main screen. You
can even use an Apple Pencil with the Mac
apps that are running on the iPad screen,
for design or graphics work.
Sidecar has a few limitations. You can’t tap
on the iPad screen with your finger to control
your Mac, so Sidecar puts two tool bars, called
the Touch Bar and Side Bar on the iPad screen
instead. These provide basic touch controls for
your Mac apps, and help you to navigate your
way around. You’ll also need a compatible Mac
and iPad – see bit.ly/mf346sdcar. Cliff Joseph
