New AirPods Pro revealed
pple’s surprisingly popular AirPods
now have a more upmarket sibling
- the £249 AirPods Pro, which
feature a new design and improved sound.
Launched at the end of October, the
AirPods Pro feature a new, stubbier, all-white
design and can be paired with one of three
sizes of silicone ear tips (included)
for a snugger fit. While that helps
improve sound quality and reduce
ambient noise, it’s the inclusion of
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
which really makes the AirPods
Pro a must-have upgrade.
ANC uses two separate
microphones – an outward-facing
one that measures environmental
noise, and an inward-facing one
that cancels any remaining noise
reaching the ear, which – along
with proprietary software –
enables ANC to continuously adapt the sound
signal up to 200 times per second.
The AirPods Pro also use Adaptive EQ
which “automatically tunes the low- and
mid-frequencies of the music to the shape
of an individual’s ear — resulting in a rich,
immersive listening experience,” says Apple.

For those times when you need to
tune into the outside world, the
AirPods Pro is equipped with a
Transparency Mode that enables
you to hear when someone is
talking to you – and to hear traffic
noise, etc, when crossing the
road. Each earbud is also
equipped with a force sensor, that
enables you to make and take
calls or skip forwards (press
