YouTube. My wife is tiring of my

incessant yammering? Netflix

to the rescue. If I want to tune into the news,

I can use tvplayer.com or one of many other

similar services on offer.

There are really only two things still tying

me to cable TV: the extortionate price of the

fastest possible broadband connection without

that TV box bundled, and the recording facilities

of said box. The sad fact is that many catch-up

services are unfathomably annoying to use

(I’m looking at you, All4), to the point where

downloading the show illegally would be a

preferable option. I’m not inclined that way,

but these services need to be slick to avoid

others taking that route – and Apple TV+,

though it’s cheap, is going to need to be

as inclusive as possible in order to grow.

Streaming has just about taken over

media delivery duties in my house –

to the extent that I’m not sure why

I even have cable TV any more
