SURFACE

PRO X

£999, microsoft.com

The latest laptop/tablet hybrid from Microsoft
is a mouthwatering proposition, both in terms
of looks and features. At just 7.3mm thick and
encased in matte-black aluminium, the Surface
Pro X oozes businesslike finesse.
The device’s ‘Instant On’ functionality and
super-fast 4G connectivity will ensure that
you get up and running in no time once at the
office or wherever you’re working. Under the
hood is the all-new custom SQ1 processor,
developed by Microsoft in collaboration with
Qualcomm, capable of driving 4K displays.
Another showstopper is the 13-inch virtually
edge-to-edge PixelSense Display touchscreen,
with a 3:2 ratio for an expanded workspace.
The Surface Pro X is compatible with the
Alcantara-covered Signature Keyboard,
designed with backlit keys and large glass
trackpad, and Slim Pen for writing and
doodling on screen. In terms of battery life, we
haven’t reviewed Microsoft’s newcomer yet so
can’t attest to whether the claim of 13 hours
use per charge is accurate. Microsoft also says
that the 2-in-1 will go from no charge to 80%
power in under an hour.
It’s adept as an entertainment platform too,
with stereo speakers powered by Dolby Audio
Premium just ready to supercharge your movie-
watching sessions.
Of course, you can buy a perfectly adequate
2-in-1 device for much less than the cost of this,
but not this thin, and not this cool. If you’re
looking for something that truly has the
X-factor, the Pro is the way to go.
