A FLYING HONEYMOON

Getting married? T3’s Travel Editor Spencer Hart discovers why Bali
is the ultimate destination for honeymooners

Your honeymoon is supposed to be one of
the most memorable holidays of your life,
right? So going somewhere special is a
must, and there’s a wide choice of
destinations to choose from. Arguably,
though, for its perfect blend of breathtaking
natural beauty, welcoming culture, relaxing
atmosphere and luxury experiences, Bali is
the ultimate destination for newly-weds.
The island offers up a lush volcanic
landscape laden with pristine beaches,
mesmerising waterfalls and vibrant rice
paddies. It’s the quintessential paradise for
both action and relaxation seekers, with
iconic temples and a rich history making it
equally appealing to culture vultures.
If that includes you, you’ll want to visit
Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, famed for
art, crafts and a monkey forest, within which
you can get close to its inhabitants. Then
there’s Nusa Penida, an island that has
gained fame on Instagram thanks to its
photogenic beauty.
If you’re looking for the best hotel in the
province, check your bags at Soori Bali
(villas from £685, sooribali.com). Located on
the island’s south-western coast, Soori is

nestled within the picturesque Tabanan
Regency, where volcanic mountains rise up
above verdant rice terraces and striking
black sand beaches. Designed by renowned
architect Soo K Chan, the resort is crafted
from locally sourced materials and
prioritises sustainability. All 48 of Soori Bali’s
villas feature private pools with sweeping
vistas of either the mountains or the ocean.
The hotel also offers complimentary and
paid-for experiences called ‘Journeys’. These
include rice paddie walks, bike rides into the
village, yoga, flower arranging and more.
Dine at three restaurants, feasting on the
freshest ingredients from nearby farms, plus
spices from Soori’s own garden. At night
you’ll be able to taste the ever-changing
menu under the stars, serenaded by the
soothing sound of lapping waves.
A flight from the UK to Denpasa, the
capital of Bali, takes approximately 16 hours,
with a layover in Doha, Singapore, Bangkok,
Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong (returns from
around £600). We’d recommend visiting
during the dry season (June-September) but
you can expect sunshine and temperatures
of 20-33° throughout the year.
