LET THE FESTIVE FEAST BEGIN

Hosting Christmas this year? It can seem daunting at first, but, says
Claire Davies, with the right gadgets it can be fun

At T3’s house, Christmas Day breakfast
usually involves something fancy on toast
(truth: it’s actually a big selection box of
chocolate). If toasted breakfast fare reigns
supreme on the Big Day in your home too,
the first gadget you’ll be calling into action,
aside from the kettle, of course, is a toaster.
In our opinion, you can’t go wrong with
the versatile Dualit Architect Toaster (£115,
dualit.com). It has four extra-wide slots big
enough to house thick-cut artisan bread,
bagels and crumpets, toasting them to your
choice of six different levels from barely
toasted to nigh-on burnt.
Bucks fizz is a good lubricant to take
most of us through from breakfast to lunch,
and there’s no fancier way to keep it (and
later, the champers) chilled than by sitting it
in a wine cooler. Save on your water bill by
choosing an insulated chiller (so no ice
required), like the Olympia Copper Plated
Wine Cooler (£28, nisbets.co.uk).
With breakfast over, it’s time to move on
to preparing the main event: Christmas Day
lunch. Regardless of whether you’re more
nut roast or three-bird roast, you deserve an
oven that not only enables you to control
the cooking while you’re sat on the sofa in

your festive pyjamas, but one that cleans
itself too. Does such a magical oven exist?
Yes, the self-cleaning, app-connected Bosch
Serie 8 HRG675BS1B (£1,249, bosch.co.uk).
This impressive oven offers a swish steam
cooking function, which is ideal for cooking
a turkey as it keeps the skin crispy and the
meat juicy, as well as handling veggies with
care, ensuring they retain more nutrients
during the cooking process. 4D Hot Air tech
ensures heat is evenly distributed to all food
in the oven, no matter how many trays of
delicious treats you ram in there.
A good food processor is your very own
Santa’s helper in the kitchen, taking care of
all the chopping, slicing, blending, mixing
and whisking. The multifunction Magimix
Kitchen System 5200 XL (£340, johnlewis.
com) is a workhorse that can be put to use
across all of your Christmas lunch prep, from
chopping herbs and slicing carrots to
blending custard for the pudding course.
Speaking of desserts, why not flambe
your Christmas pudding or caramelise other
puddings? It’s easy and fun to do, and looks
brilliant in the endless pictures your family
will no doubt take. Try it with the Eddingtons
Brulee Torch (£18, amazon.co.uk).
