George Cairns demonstrates how to alter colours
and tones to mimic the look of a retro seaside postcard
Summer is over, but for many of
us it will have provided some
colourful photos, thanks to the
seaside’s sun, sand and blue sky.
Many of the seafront attractions
enjoyed by tourists today have
adorned souvenir postcards for
decades. This makes the seaside
the perfect spot for a nostalgic
retro makeover. In Capture NX-Dwe can adjust the colour and hue
of digital shots to replicate the
effect of inaccurate colours from
old postcards.
We’ll also show how to add
retro artefacts to our postcard.
These lighter or darker areas in a
traditional print were caused by
the uneven exposure, produced
by less sophisticated cameralenses from back in the day.
Capture’s vignette tool is
designed to subtly lighten or
darken modern lens-induced
vignettes, so the results that it
produces are too subtle when it
comes to adding creative effects.
To finish off we’ll use Color
Control Points for a sun-bleached
