Established in 1994,the UnitedNations Convention to Combat

Desertification (UNCCD)isthesolelegallybindinginternational

agreement linking environment and development to sustainable

landmanagement.The Global Mechanism (GM)is an organof

theUNCCD thatis mandated to support countryParties to the

Conventionin themobilizationof resourcesforitsimplementation.

TheManagingDirectoroftheGlobalMechanismoftheUNCCD

guides the implementation of themandate of theGM, offering

supportto developingcountriesonhowto scaleupimplementation

of the Convention and achieve Land Degradation Neutrality.

Specifically,theManagingDirector:

1. Supports countries in taking bold actions to address
   desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD) and
   making it a priority in country policies, programs, and
   transformationalprojects;


2. ProvidesvisionanddirectiontotheGM’sworkonfinancein
   supportof DLDDactivities;


3. Plansandstrategicallymanagesallaspectsofhumanresources
   fortheGMandoverseestheadministrativetasksnecessaryfor
   thefunctioningof theOffice.
