CUBA
LIBRE
This fall tips its frayed straw hat to the palm-
fringed languor of Cuban folk traditions. With
the island now reopened to the U.S. its colourful
style is finding its rightful place in the sun. An
old world ceiling fan meant to whirl with all the
haste of dissipating cigar smoke looks like it
might once have decorated Hemingwayâs famous
Finca VigÃa estate. Cement f loor tiles in festive
patterns were fashioned after heritage designs
from Havana and conjure the splendour of the
Cuban palacio. A raffia-embellished clutch from
Lizzie Fortunato in shades of tobacco brown and
pepper red is dubbed the Port of Call in
Explorers Club. And while Hemingwayâs
preferred port of call was a barstool at Havanaâs
El Floridita (on which he set sail on vast seas of
daiquiris) you might consider a woven rocker
from Casualife instead. ¡Salud!
