ERAMIST AND
DESIGNER TRUDY CRANE of
Lookslikewhite studio specializes in
creating white dishware so naturally this
hue gets top billing in her 1200-square-foot
apartment located near the gorgeous
Marché Bonsecours in Old Montreal.
The historic circa 1875 building a former
rooming house was renovated before she
moved in so all Trudy had to do was lavish
the space with her shade de choix Benjamin
Moore’s Simply W hite.
Trudy’s ceramics are often stamped with
textured designs and shaped with organic
edges that are testament to their handmade
construction. Her apartment ref lects this
same attention to detail. “I love the whole
Scandi-Cali look” she notes of the
monochromatic space which she’s carefully
populated with refurbished finds like a
petite French loveseat and a 30-year-old
Ikea buffet. “The apartment has four
windows on each side so light streams in
from the front and back. It’s super
important in small spaces to get that light
ref lected.” Large-scale mirrors and a glass
cloche collection supply the sparkle but
it’s balanced by creamy rugs and white
light fixtures.
“This is the perfect space for entertaining
because I can cook in the kitchen and still
have a conversation with guests in the living
room” Trudy says. Open shelving displays
her work and invites guests to grab their
own plates and appreciate their handmade
tactile beauty. — Wend y Jac ob
