Curated Classic Size: 100 sq.ft.
WOW FACTOR: HAND-PAINTED MURAL
The homeowner had fallen in love with some
Zuber & Cie wallpapers so designer Colette
van den Thillart paid homage to their iconic
panoramas with a playful hand-painted mural.
“I designed it to resemble how this Toronto
neighbourhood might have looked in the
18th century but for humour I put in a local
bridge that wouldn’t have been there then”
she says.
THE DETAILS: Large-scale mirrored lanterns
make the space appear grander as do the
Italianate mirror and antique vanity which
was modified to accommodate the plumbing.
Rather than matching metals and finishes
Colette played pieces off each other giving
the space a collected look. “Any transient
space in a house like a powder room is an
excellent place to splurge and also to be a bit
daring” says Colette. “Since powder rooms
are often used when we entertain its rather
nice if they’re dramatic.” Mural Peter Costello.
