INSIDE KNOWLEDGE
WE BEGGED SOME OF THIS ISSUE’S COOLEST RIDERS FOR THEIR BEST ADVICE
AARON GULLEY,
WILD WEST, P. 6 6
When I was doing a lot
of the endurance moun-
tain races—which can be
pretty tough, with days
on end in the saddle and
your body and mind falling
apart slowly—someone
told me, “If you’re suffer-
ing, you’re never going
to make it anywhere. But
the suffering is a state of
mind.” Basically, we get to
choose the experience we
have out there. Even if it’s
tough, it should be enjoy-
able. If it’s not, stop, get
off the bike, and figure out
what’s troubling so you
can get back on and ride
comfortably and enjoy
the experience. also: To
motivate myself, I find
some gratitude. I tell
myself, “You don’t HAVE
to be on the bike. You
choose to and get to.”
