having their own gastronomic adventures.
NSW roads have developed a seedy
reputation over the past 20 years as
governments have struggled with the
effects of floods and droughts. The TS
Safari route delivered the best of what’s
left and ticked all the important boxes
including the brilliant roads in the New
England region. The evenings were full of
stories about waterfalls, flora and fauna.
It’s great to ride but it’s equally great to be
able to talk about it afterwards with people
who share your enthusiasm.

IS IT FOR YOU?
BMW is moving away from the ‘bikes as
transport’ model to the ‘bikes as lifestyle’
position. The TS Safari is an expression
of this, and BMW has now committed to
having a TS Safari every year.
It doesn’t suit everyone. For starters, you
have to have a BMW. There are plenty of
BMW owners who prefer to set their own
agendas and there are plenty of riders who
actually like riding either by themselves or
in smaller groups.
Oh, and it might cost you a little more
than a ride you plan yourself. For BMW,
it’s not a money-making venture. The

What the TS Safari offers is security, in
that whatever can possibly go wrong in a
ride is catered for.
There’s a truck to carry your excess
luggage; there are BMW mechanics to fix
any bike issues; you don’t have to worry
about accommodation and bike security
and, if you crash, both medical and
mechanical support is close at hand. The
route gets the best out of what’s available
and you spend a week with people who
share your values and are happy to share
your adventure with you.
And, if you’re like me, your pillion
will probably enjoy it just as much and it
might take a bit of pressure off next time
you’re trying to negotiate a joint ride.
It’s a week both of you are unlikely to
forget.
