Of Rockville,Maryland, died on July 12, 2019,

due to complications from dementia. Ed was

preceded in death by his son, EdwardJ. Butch-

er,III. In addition to his wife,Judy,heissurvived

by his daughter,Michelle Norton, her husband

Phillip Norton, Jr., of McLean,VA, and six

grandchildren.

Followingatour of duty in Vietnam for which

he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal from

the United States Army,Lt. Butcher returned

home to attend the University of Virginia, and

was graduated with honors in 1972. Ed retired

from the United States Nuclear Regulatory

Commission.

Following his AirForce service,Albert went

on to work with RCA as an engineer and

manager.After several overseas assign-

ments,Sigrid and Albert settled in Springfield

in 1966. He retired from RCA in 1984 and

enjoyed many worldwide adventures with

Sigrid during their retirement years.Hewas

active in Sons of Norway,The OddFellows,

The VFW and several language clubs.Asa

world traveler and “citizen of the world” he

cultivated an appreciation for other cultures.

Wecannot do justice to his life inafew

paragraphs but he wroteamemoir treasured

by his family.

wrote that this juncture in time would be a

step to eternal life with the Architect of the

Albert was born inFrance on August 14, 1929

to parents who’dsurvived the Armenian

genocide.Heemigrated to theU.S.in 1948,

joined the AirForce in 1953, and proudly

becameaU.S citizen. He met Sigrid on a

blind date,and after only seven weeks,they

committed toamarriage that would span

over 65 years.Their family grew to include

three children, 11 grandchildren and four+

great-grandchildren. His work on Earth is

done,but his wife,Sigrid, children, Ellen

land, CollegePark, died in his sleep at Sibley

Hospital inWashington, DC on October 28,

2019, where his family had gathered. The

cause of death was lung cancer.Along-time

resident of Maryland, DaveFreeman lived for

47 years in Potomac before downsizing with

his wife toacondo in North Bethesda six

years ago.ProfessorFreeman began his career

atWashington State University,continued his

research at the National Bureau of Standards,

and returned to academia at the University of

Maryland, where he did research and teaching

for 25 years.Born in Rochester,NewYork

on June 24, 1931, he graduated from the

University of Rochester in 1952 withaB.S.

inchemistry.HeearnedanM.S.inchemistry

at Carnegie Institute (now Carnegie Mellon

University), completedaPh.D.inchemistry at

M.I.T.in1957 and did post-doctoral research

there for two years.DaveFreeman enjoyed

vigorous down-hill skiing, was an enthusiastic

hiker,and for 30 years sailed his boats from

Annapolis to Maine.Inhis retirement he taught

photography classes,most recently in the

Osher Life-Long Learning program at American

University.DaveFreeman served asavestry

member and junior warden of St. Luke’sEpis-

copal Church, Bethesda. An active member

of the Cosmos Club inWashington, DC since

photography committees.His survivors include

Born to Lauri andLydia Saarinen on Septem-

ber 10, 1923 inWorcester,Massachusetts and

passed away on November 7, 2019. As a

child, Ruth lived in Lindenhurst and Rockville

Center on Long Island and then moved to

South Killingly,Connecticut where they settled

down–and where Ruth attendedaone room

schoolhouse for 4th and 5th grades.Ruth

graduated from Killingly High School in Daniel-

son, Connecticut in 1941. She went on to

study nursing and graduated asaRegistered

Nurse from the Rhode Island College School of

Nursing.

She was married to the late Col. George

F.Harrington, USAF Ret., on June 7, 1947,

after George had graduated from theU.S.

Military Academy atWest Point on June 3rd,

1947. She is survived by her loving children.
      Joanne,George and partner Liz, and Julie,and
      grandchildren, Haley and Shane Madkour.She
      is also survived by numerous caring nieces and
      nephews in Connecticut, and devoted cousins
      and family in Finland.
      Ruth and George livedahappy military life;
      moving to new bases,the Pentagon, attending
      Harvard Business School and the ArmedForces
      Staff College,overseas tours to Germany twice
      andFrance for four years at SHAPE (living in
      Villennes Sur Seine). After George retired from
      the AirForce in 1977, he joined Beech Aircraft
      as Vice President of International Marketing,
      and the second chapter of their lives began
      in Wichita, Kansas.Ruth loved her time in
      Wichita, serving asadocent for the Wichita Art
      Museum.
      In addition to living in Europe,they traveled
      extensively to Australia, South Africa, Finland,
      China, Russia, Philippines,among many other
      countries.She also spent many cherished days
      at their condo at Bethany Beach, Del. and at
      their “Last Resort” in LittleWashington,Va.,
      and enjoyed spending time with her grandchil-
      dren. Ruth never metastranger;she always
      made everyone feel comfortable and appre-
      ciated, whether in person or through her
      beautifully expressive cards and letters.
      Memorial services will be held onFriday,
      December 6, 2019, at3p.m. at Everly-Wheatley
      Funeral Home,1 500 WBraddock Rd., Alexan-

Alife-long civil servant, Rosalie began her work

in her home state of Louisiana, working in

LivingstonParish, and then with The State

of Louisiana. As the agency began to move

into the computer age,she showed an early

and immediate aptitude for it, and began her

lifelong role in departmental systems automa-

tion. When the State ofTexas began imple-

menting their system, they came to Baton

Rouge to see what they had built. Through

that process they asked her to join them in

Austintohelpthembuildtheirnewsystems

there.Itwas while in Austin that she began

to work withFederal Offices,and made her

way toWashington, where she oversaw the

development and implementation of state sys-

tems in the SE and SW regions of the country.

She then went on to the Office of the Secretary

where she oversaw Child Support Systems

across the entire country.She retired in

1992 from the US Government, consulting for

Lockheed Martin subsequent to her retirement

from civil service.She wasachampion of,

and advocate for,women in the workplace.

Leading by example in that area every day,

encouraging those who worked with her in

that cause in all ways she could.

Born in Louisiana, Rosalie always enjoyed life,

people and havingagood time; helping all

thosearoundhertodothesame.Shelovedlife

on Capitol Hill, and politics,and wasalife-long

supporter of the DemocraticParty.She and

her late husband Jim were always amazingly

gracious hosts to all that came,and there

were many,totheir homes inWashington, and

to their place at the Shore in Sea Isle City

New Jersey,where many parties,get togethers

and family times were shared. They were an

amazing team, and loved each other dearly.

Rosalie touched many lives through the years

and knew and enjoyed people from all walks of

life.She will be sorely missed by all who knew

and loved her.

Charlottesville,Va. He was born on September

1, 1924 to the late Claude Cleveland Haney and

in death by his wife,Anna Muriel Blake Haney;

brother,Floyd Haney and sister,Loraina Collins.

Most of his career was dedicated to commer-

cial real estate development, including office,

retail, and multifamilyresidential projects.He

had also been engaged in many civic activities

including PTApresident, Civic Association

President, and cubmaster.Hewas the Execu-

tive Vice President of Charles E. Smith Com-

mercial Realty Co., which becameadivision of

Vornado RealtyTr ust. He wasapast president

of the Building Owner and Managers of Metro

Washington and had served as president of

theWashington Chapter of the institute of

Real Estate Mgt. and Property Mgt. Assoc.

Melton had the distinction of being the first

individual to serve as president of the areas

licensed real estate broker inWashington,D.

C.,Maryland, and was an insurance broker

recipient of the Property Mgr.ofthe year award

in 1970. In recent years,his attention was
