Sisi was 15 when this
picture was taken by the
well-known German
photographer Alois
Löcherer in Bavaria, in
1853, the year she became
engaged to her cousin the
emperor Franz Josef.3
3 Creature Comfort
Sisi was a great animal
lover and there are many
photographs of her with
her dogs. In this one taken
in 1867, she appears with
her dog Houseguard, a pet
she had for many years
and for whom she felt a
special affection.
