From the cockpits of the 919
Hybrid and TIE Fighter to the
saber-like rear lightbar of the
new Taycan, visual symmetries
and an appreciation for each
other’s iconic design and crafts-
manship are apparent.

Of course, none of these were
official collaborations—rather,
inspiration and appreciation
from afar. But now, after 42
years, with the release of Star
Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,
these two worlds are about
to collide, officially, with
The Designer Alliance.

Led by Doug Chiang (VP Exec-
utive Creative Director, Lucas-
Film) and Michael Mauer (VP
Style Porsche), a small team of
specialized designers from both
sides has been tasked with cre-
ating the next iconic ship design
for the Star Wars universe.

This collaboration comes as each
celebrates a seminal moment
in their respective histories. A
moment that, coincidentally, or,
if you’ve been reading, expect-
edly, arrives at the exact same
time: December 2019.

For Lucasfilm, it’s the highly
anticipated release of Star
Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,
which marks the culmination
of the epic nine-film story arc
of the Skywalker family. The
very same week, nearly to the
day, the all-new, fully electric
Porsche Taycan will arrive in the
U.S., marking the dawn of a new
generation for Porsche.

There is no telling what this
special collaboration, one liter-
ally decades in the making, will
yield. But if history is any indi-
cation, the result will be nothing
short of legendary.
