Spotlight 13/2019 A DAY IN MY LIFE

ello! My name is Tracey Jones. I’m 49 and
work in a skin clinic in Brisbane, Queens-
land, Australia. My job title is “dermal
technician”, and I’m quite blessed to have
this position. It brings me in contact with
many different women who come in with
skin conditions. Our clinic is connected to
a medical centre. We work with a diverse
range of skin needs, from cancer down to
basic beauty requirements.
My day starts around 4.30 a.m., when I
get up, have a lovely double espresso and
a warm cup of vinegar and then head off
for a power walk until dawn. After wards,
I go home to collect my dog. She’s almost
14 years old. We go out for a walk until
sunrise, after which I come home and
then head out again for hot yoga. It keeps
me vibrant, spiritual, well taken care of
both mentally and physically, and I’m able
to bring that to my daily life at the clinic.

Heading into work at around 9 a.m.,
I first see the lovely ladies and staff that
I deal with at Park Ridge Skin Clinic.
I have women from 18 years of age
right up to my oldest client, who’s 87.

A DAY IN MY LIFE

H

well-being, whether that’s through communicating with me
about their lives, or identifying various skin issues and solving
them through different treatment modalities. It’s a ver y hands-
on industry, and I find that part of my role is accepting people’s
information and dealing with it as a counsellor.
On any single day, my tasks at the clinic can include a luxuri-
ous pampering facial for a lady in her thirties, in which case, we
might spend an hour in each other’s company. I will be chatting
with clients about the best ways to implement Environ Skin
Care — which we provide here at the clinic — and care routines,
through to the laser therapies we apply.
Hair removal is a big thing here in Australia, because we spend
a lot of time outdoors. Many vascular issues arise: facial and leg
vascular lesions and that sort of thing. Pigment is another big
topic here. We all have freckles. We all have spots from spend-
ing far too much time in the sun. I’m able to help people address
issues of this kind, particularly as they age. These become more
apparent on the skin, and the laser is here to help with them.
These are just a few of the tasks. We also have a cosmetic in-
jectable suite here at the clinic. I do detailed consultations with
ladies. We like to make sure they have a healthy sense of well-
being, leading to the appropriate kinds of treatment and making
sure their mindset is positive as well.

The working day goes on until 5.30 p.m. — or until 7 p.m. some
nights — after which I head home. Then it’s all about my dog
again, since I’ve never been married or had children. She’s my
fur baby. She has a handmade meal every evening: chia seeds,
flax, kangaroo mince. I make a meal for myself before going to
bed, when I usually listen to some YouTube doctors, skin pro-
grammes, dietary programmes — things that can be of help to
me and that give me more information to assist my clients.
I’m quite happy to be at home in my own company as often
as I am. I guess attending a gala event might be fun, but I would
much rather have a quiet, healthy lifestyle, being empowered
with the knowledge I can gain from like-minded others.
