A
s the former home of British television, the circular
architectural icon was a hub of energy, creativity
and authority. Today those same qualities
characterise the transformation of Television Centre into
stunning new homes, live TV studios, offices and an
unparalleled lifestyle destination. Situated just west of
Notting Hill and Holland Park, only 13 minutes from Bond
Street or 22 minutes from Bank via underground, and on
the right side of London to dash to and from Heathrow and
Oxfordshire, Television Centre has geographical
convenience as well as luxury amenities including a 24/7
concierge and top-notch security.
On-site, there is Soho House (complete with vast
gymnasium, pool, sauna and fitness studios for residents),
Bluebird Cafe, and “sushi in the clouds” courtesy of Endo
at the Rotunda. For culture, there’s Elephant West gallery
and the Troubadour White City theatre; for shopping,
Westfield, Europe’s largest retail centre, hosts 425 boutiques
including a designer village and a 17-screen cinema. The
aura of showbiz glitz remains with BBC Studioworks,
where The Graham Norton Show is filmed.
Those on the lookout for a luxury home in London
invariably want somewhere unique, inspiring and tailored to
their needs. That’s why Paul Monaghan, the RIBA Stirling
Prize-winning director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
(AHMM), hand-picked a collection of Britain’s finest
contemporary architects to join him in designing the most
premium apartments atop the historic Helios and the newly
built Crescent in the scheme, known as the Architect Series.
Each bespoke, one-off apartment reflects an individual
design philosophy, from Phil Coffey’s light-filled spaces
which play on the concentric circles emanating from the
Helios statue at the focal point of the development to
Haptic’s Scandi aesthetic and contemporary warmth, with
a clever utility cube at the centre. Piercy & Company use
gorgeous marble and walnut timber to embody understated
British craftsmanship while AHMM’s signature sculptural
kitchen brings a sophisticated indoor/outdoor dynamic,
capitalising on the ample natural light.
Television Centre offers alternative ways of living: the
original Helios building features duplex apartments with
bedrooms on the lower level and living spaces above;
while the new Crescent building comprises lateral layouts
that maximise views over the private courtyard gardens
and Hammersmith Park. The penthouses are quite simply
magnificent – and include an “eccentric and maximalist”
space with gallery conjured by Archer Humphryes, the
practice responsible for the Chiltern Firehouse.
Available now, two- and three-bedroom apartments
from £2.9m; the final two penthouses are for sale, POA.
