A Eulogy for Bob Evans’ Tennis Court
Robert Evans weathered tough times in his 70-plus-year career, but
there was one constant: tennis. Evans, the producer and executive
who died Oct. 28 at 89, hosted many stars on his Woodland Drive court
in Beverly Hills, including Barbra Streisand, Jack Nicholson, Henry
Kissinger and Serena Williams. Evans’ black-and-green court was “the
number one action court,” says tennis instructor Darryl Goldman, 60.
“They stopped painting courts that color years ago, but Bob had a sense
of style,” he says. “Novak Djokovic loved it.” Of Evans’ skill, Goldman
adds that he was “crafty and could beat players you wouldn’t think he
could,” including Johnny Carson and O.J. Simpson “when he was just a
football player.” Once Kirk Kerkorian stormed off the court because of
an MGM deal that was going south. “He had to sell something to stay
alive,” says Goldman. “Bob talked him back” onto the court.

Team Nanci at the Walk to Defeat ALS.

The Indomitable Nanci Ryder
Nanci Ryder can still command
a crowd. Five years after her ALS
diagnosis, the founding partner
of BWR Public Relations once
again participated in the Walk
to Defeat ALS, backed by 60-plus
supporters who helped raise more
than $78,644 at the Nov. 3 event.
Among the longtime friends who
attended were Renée Zellweger
and Courteney Cox, who said,
“The way I’m showing my love is
to keep talking about it to bring

most popular sex club for men
in Southern California,” per the
website. Attractions include two
floors of mazes and “BJ bullpens
and stalls.” Expect confusion
from attendees of the Spears
Zone, on Fairfax and Third; the
gay Zone is a five-minute drive
away on Sycamore Avenue. A rep
for the PG version says: “Britney
Spears’ ‘The Zone’ is a tempo-
rary interactive experience so
fans can connect with their
favorite artist.”

Ratner Reappears Courtside
at Lakers Opener
On Oct. 25, the L.A. Lakers won
their first home game of the
season, 95-86 against the Utah
Jazz. While LeBron James’ 32
points had people talking, so did
the courtside occupants. Rihanna
ate fries next to Avi Lerner, who
sat with Brett Ratner in his first
big appearance since facing
sexual misconduct allegations
from six women. One of them,
Olivia Munn, says of his resurfac-
ing (and that of others, including
Harvey Weinstein): “What is more
important is making sure they
don’t continue to be in positions
where they are making money off
of people they can abuse.” Lerner,
who faced a harassment lawsuit
pre-#MeToo, “has said that he
supports Woody Allen and Ratner
... so these men back each other,”
says Munn. “Then we see they
are all there together courtside at
the Lakers, and we know who you
are.” — WITH REPORTING BY INGRID SCHMIDT

awareness. You have to keep get-
ting the word out. There will be a
cure.” Other participants: CAA’s
Bryan Lourd and power publicists
Jennifer Allen and Melissa Kates.
One new face: Adam Scott, who
revealed that his mother received
a recent ALS diagnosis. “This is
all really overwhelming,” he said,
adding that he’ll be visiting his
mother this week: “I’m going to
bring all your love and strength
and give it to her.”

Britney Spears or Sex Club?
In January, L.A. will play host to
a Britney Spears fan experience
called “The Zone.” Named after
the pop star’s album In the Zone, it
consists of 10 memorabilia-filled
rooms — e.g., the faux airliner
from her “Toxic” video. Only
there’s already an L.A. experi-
ence called The Zone — “the
