JANELLE
MONÁE
After previewing the
Egyptian-inspired
Chanel outfit Monáe
was wearing, makeup
artist Vincent
Oquendo knew he
wanted to channel
Cleopatra. He did
so by drawing
graphic winged
shapes around
Monáe’s eyes
using white
liner and gilded
shadows.

HELEN MIRREN
“When Helen showed
me her [Elie Saab Haute
Couture] dress, she
thought we should do
something funny and
light,” says hairstylist
Stéphane Lancien. “We
came up with the idea to
color her hair a similar
shade.” Makeup artist Val
Garland “designed the
makeup to complement,”
Lancien adds.

NAOMI CAMPBELL
The high neck of this
Alexander McQueen
creation brought even
more focus to the super-
model’s short, fresh
curls and ever-sharp
cheekbones.

LADY GAGA
The monochromatic Valentino Haute Couture
look “took weeks” of preparation, says Lady
Gaga’s hairstylist Frederic Aspiras, who colored
her strands on the day of her Golden Globes
appearance. “It was so important to have a classic
look for the awards but at the same time stay
true to her aesthetic and add a bit of Gaga to it.”

ELLE FANNING
Knowing the brim of Fanning’s
Dior Haute Couture hat could be
shielding her eyes, makeup artist
Erin Ayanian Monroe made the
actress’s fuchsia lipstick a focal point.
“I wanted something strong there
to keep the look balanced,” she
says. “It was such a moment.”

CHARLIZE
THERON
“We mirrored the
definition and
strength of her
Givenchy [Haute
Couture] dress
with a strong
middle part,”
says Theron’s
hairstylist Adir
Abergel. Her
multicolored
mani added a
whimsical touch.
